![]() The interface is easy to use and the prefs are a breeze to set up. Alas, SaveHollywood broke with Snow Leopard, so I can't even do that trick anymore.Īfter using Mach Desktop all morning, and trying out all kinds and sizes of movies, the Quartz Compostions, and putting different weg pages on my desktop, I was sold. The QTKitserver that runs in the background seems to take way less cpu and memory than other ways I've tried to use to run a QT movie on the desktop - like using Screeni, or SaverDesktop, or WallSaver to run the SaveHollywood Screen saver (it plays QT movies as a screensaver) on my desktop. I have dozens of beautiful, and really huge, QT files, and Mach Desktop plays them all with ease. Most of the built-in Quartz Compositions are beautiful and interesting, and it's also really cool being able to display a live web page on your desktop if you want.īut the big thing for me is how gracefully Mach Desktop handles running QuickTime files on your desktop. This program does a terrific job of putting beautiful moving images on your desktop. If you want to display widgets on your Desktop, you can use the FREE WidgetRunner, It works great standalone or with other programs like My Living Desktop. It has more features and appears to work better at least on on my system. ![]() If they do not, I would recommend My Living Desktop. But if you just want to play QT ,movies on your Desktop, please try Mach Desktop first to make sure you can hear audio and the movies loop properly on your Mac. The widgets do NOT FLOAT on top of the windows like other solutions.īut if you want more control on the layer on which your widget resides, you will need to use another solution like the FREE WidgetRunner.Īll in all, MachDesktop has some great features and the price is right. One of the BEST features is its ability to display widgets on your desktop. ![]() But it will probably make your Desktop ugly. Pity.Īnd yes you can display a web page on your Desktop (like MS Active Desktop). Right now you cannot easily use any of their great Quartz animations ALSO as a Screensaver, You will need to do that manually. (And when you import a new Quartz composition, import into into your list of available Screensavers). I would prefer the ability to use one of your Quartz Screensavers as your Desktop Animation (like WallSaver). But it does not easily let you use one of your Quartz ScreenSavers as the desktop animation. Mach Desktop does play Quartz compositions on your Desktop. (My Living Desktop does this).īut unlike My Living Desktop. Better yet, also add the ability to automatically MUTE audio when certain applications like iTunes are running. You will want to do that when you play music in iTunes etc. I also would like to see an option in the MenuBar to EASILY mute the audio without having to go into the Preferences. I am sure these are small bugs that can easily be fixed. At the end of the loop, the motion stops but I still hear the sound. (and yes, I do have the volume UP in the Mach Desktop Preferences).īug 2 - It has trouble looping some of my QT movies. If I use my own movies, I can hear sound. There are no match points – e.g.Mach Desktop appears to work well on my Desktop but it appears to have some bugs when playing back QT movies.īug 1 - I cannot hear any sound from the included QT movies. ![]() Many papers are trimmed through the design for ease of matching. If the matching part of the pattern is between two match points, this is called an offset match. If the match falls on the same horizontal plane as the other side, this is referred to as a straight match. Look out for a written description, for example free match, half drop and random, or for arrow symbols. When you’re hanging paper, the pattern match tells you where to align the next length, to ensure the design matches up. The amount of waste you need to add to each length is never more than the pattern repeat indicated. The pattern repeat measurement is useful for calculating how much extra should be allowed on each drop of paper when you hang it. Or from buying too few and finding out the supplier has run out of the same batch numbers. This will save you from buying too many rolls, which can be an expensive mistake. You need to know what the pattern repeat is so you can calculate how many rolls of paper to buy. You’ll see it written as a measurement, Arthouse wallpapers come in a range of pattern repeats for example, 26cm, 32cm or 52cm. This is the vertical distance measured before the design repeats itself, along the length of your wallpaper. When it comes to wallpaper, do you know the difference between ‘pattern match’ and ‘pattern repeat’? People often mistake them for the same thing - so, as experts in wallpaper, we’re here to explain in straightforward terms just what they mean.
